Welcome to Far Harbor
Far Harbor is a 18+ RPG that features loose stats, perks (and the ability to gain more) and a profile application. Don't worry if your knowledge of Fallout isn't extensive! Our docs cover the most important points and we'll be happy to answer any questions you might have about the world.

On Far Harbor, we like to focus on the oddness of a post-apocalyptic future where technology is as diverse as having synthetic life and guns made of wood pailings. Ghouls, super mutants, humans and synths all have a place in The Island. If you're looking for a place to explore a world blasted by radiation

. . . welcome home
Feburary 2277
Super mutants have been discovered on The Island after a disasterous expedition to find somewhere for the ghouls to establish an indepedent settlement. Meanwhile, Far Harbor was attacked by anglers, injuring many and placing additional strain upon the town's only physician.

I have installed the new "Pipboy" theme! It introduces the ability to display what items your character commonly carries (change this in the UserCP). If you run into issues, be sure to PM Kit the Human.

We've also switched to profile applications! Pending Users can now edit all of their details. You can find out about the process here.

We've relaxed out content rules! We're now rated, anything goes.

HTML has been enabled for the development, wanted ads and plotters forums. Instructions are here. In other news....super mutants have been discovered on the Island. It is the first time they have been spotted. Super mutants are now a playable race!

SPECIAL

We use stats in Far Harbor. These stats should be used in conjunction with perks as a guideline in comparing your character with another character. The stats used in Far Harbor is Fallout's iconic SPECIAL system. They stand for:
  • Strength
  • Strength represents a character's raw physical power. Strength enables a character to hit harder and carry more things. High strength is important for brawlers.
  • Perception
  • Perception is your character's ability to sense things. A perception stat could indicate excellent eyesight and hearing. Or else their ability to perceive things that stand out. A high perception is important for characters that are sharpshooters or 'locksmiths.'
  • Endurance
  • A character with high endurance has excellent stamina and/or immune system. Endurance is important for characters that like to run fast from danger or sample poison.
  • Charisma
  • Charisma is your character's ability to manipulate social situations. As Charisma is inherently god-moddy, all characters receive 3 points in charisma. This can not be altered.
  • Intelligence
  • Intelligent characters may be able to read, write or think a lot about things. Intelligence is important for scientists, doctors or philosophers.
  • Agility
  • Agile characters are coordinated characters. They usually have excellent reflexes and it is important for characters who are thieves or acrobats.
  • Luck
  • Characters that are lucky should consider gambling as their career path.

Every character can spend 20 skill points during the application process. Through forum events, character's will be given the chance to improve certain skills.

Perks and what they do

Perks are a way for the player to not only express what skills their character has focussed on, but also to give meaning to the SPECIAL skill points. For example, a character with 5 strength and the Gun Nut and Heavy Weapons perks has a very different strength to the character with 5 strength and Iron First and Big Leagues as their perks.

What the perks do not do is state that this character is always going to shoot better with the Gunslinger perk than someone without it. Players should keep in mind that age, experience and environmental factors are all factors that can affect the outcome of a fight.

Gaining new skill points

There are three main ways to gain a new skill point:
  • Out of Character Events
  • In Character Events
  • Player Quest

Out of Character Events
Every month for a week, you will be given the opportunity to earn a new skill point for a set skill. This is done through out of character events (OOC Events.) The events range from taking screencaptures to playing certain games. You will get one skill point for participation and it can be given to any character of your choice. Or you can bank the point for a certain character. When one character has five skill points banked, they can buy a third perk.

In Character Events
Participating in in-character (IC) events can also net you a new skill point. IC Events will occur occasionally and are used to somehow change the Island or the faction involved. Sometimes, the event will appear innocuous, but invariably where the event takes you will reveal something important about the Island.

IC Events are run by the staff but their role is to set the scene and keep the action moving. The staff member will also post sign ups. Each sign up will include a word on how often posts are expected before the staff member takes over and moves the action forward, the minimum skill requirements are for characters to join, and the maximum number of players that are allowed to participate. Finally, the staff member will explain what needs to occur in order for the event to be counted a success.

Upon successful completion, the participating characters will be given an extra skill point to spend as they like (for that character.)

Player Quest
Player quests are quests that you can make up for your own character. These quests will net you one skill point upon successful completion, just like a staff run IC Event. Your character may only have one quest a month. Further detail can be found here.
